How many times have you put cleaning out the same closet on your to-do list for the weekend? Somehow mundane tasks like closet cleaning never seem to get accomplished. We always mean to get them done, but more demanding life events seem to push these tasks further and further down on our list of priorities.

Sometimes just figuring out what type of closet organizer would work the best can get us past the mental block of organizing our stuff. As always, the best way to start is by taking everything out of the closet and making the 3 piles – trash, keep, and put somewhere else (includes giving to charity). This process is not too complicated, but as we can see from all of the popular "organize your house" reality TV shows, many of us seem to have an ongoing problem with really getting rid of our clutter.

The missing piece to the puzzle might be that little over-the-door shelf to hold the cleaning products or the cheap wire shelving that fits into any space to hold our stuff. It doesn't need to be rocket science, but we do need to take a few minutes and look at the items we need to store and then find an easy storage system for getting the job done.

There are so many nifty little closet organizers available in stores and online that we don't really have to suffer with cluttered closets that are totally out of control. There are entire stores dedicated to storage containers and products meant to make our homes a little less cluttered. Grab a trash bag or two, purge your messy space, take some measurements and you will be on your way to a neater closet before you know it. Organize one closet this weekend and then relax knowing your life is that much more together.
