Paul Wesley is an actor, producer, and director. His most recent work includes Before I Disappear, Cal and Camo, and Amira and Sam. The first won the SXSW Film Festival Audience Award. He is also famous for his four roles and production in the eighth season of the supernatural television drama, The Vampire Diaries. He got his start in 1999 in the television series as Seth McKinnon in the soap opera, Another World.
In an interview with Collider, Wesley said that he’s personally known director, Shawn Christensen since he was just 16. He stated that over the years, they have also done collaboration work together. After Christensen’s film, The Curfew won an Oscar, Christensen and Wesley got together to discuss a full adaptation of it. It turned into Before I Disappear, which also won an Oscar and made producer a major part of Wesley’s resume.
From what Wesley claims, these days, it’s very difficult to get support for a movie unless it’s horror or you have A-list actors in it. Wesley seems to prefer directing and producing to acting because of the repetition with having to play the same character day after day for a certain period of time. Sometimes for many years straight. He mentioned that in the film industry, anyone can get an audition but that there is an understandable tendency to support those you already know and believe in.
Wesley has mentioned that he is currently attempting to produce about five projects. Overall, it seems as if he has a very bright future as a director and producer ahead of him.
