If you want to reduce your electricity costs then here is an easy way to do it. Using solar lights in and around your home will help ease the rising costs of electricity. They use the power of the sun to provide you with a renewable light source. The types of lights available will give you ample choices to suit your decor. All these benefits make solar lights an excellent solution for your lighting needs.
Solar lights are a completely automatic and self sufficient energy source. They work by using a solar panel made up of photovoltaic cells to collect energy from the sunlight. This energy is transformed into an electric current and stored in rechargeable batteries within the light fixture. This stored energy is then used to power the light once it becomes dark. The energy is renewable, which means it never runs out, and is completely free.
By replacing your existing regular lights with energy efficient solar lights you can reduce your electricity bill with little effort. The ever increasing cost of electricity means that unless you make a change to your existing lighting you will forever be paying more than you need to. You can start by swapping out your pathway lights for solar garden lights. These are simple to install, just push them into the ground and they will turn on by themselves. You can continue from there to the many other types of solar lights available.
There are so many choices when it comes to different types of solar lights that you will be able to find whatever you need to fit your lighting requirements. Garden stake lights are a great way to get started because they are easy to set up and can go almost anywhere. For some decorative effect you can use floating solar lights in pools, ponds and fountains. If you need added security around your home, use motion sensor spot lights that will light up when someone walks past. These types of lights are an ideal way to begin saving money.
Solar lights are great lighting solution around your home if you want to reduce your costs. They use a free energy source, they are completely automated and your choices are endless. You can now introduce solar lights into your home with very little effort.

If you have been to The Solar Lights Site, you likely know quite a bit about solar lighting. A recent post there inspired me to write this article about solar marker lights. If you are not familiar with solar lighting, that’s okay. You can still benefit from this article.
So what makes these lights so unique? Like other styles, they use solar panels to gather the sun’s light and convert it to energy. They use on-board batteries to store that charge, and LED bulbs to turn that energy back into light. Unlike other types of lights, they need to be smaller and function under much harsher circumstances.
Solar marker lights can be surface mounted or recessed. That gives them a wide range of application possibilities. Surface mounted lights can be mounted anywhere that you have something to mount them to: concrete, steps, walkway, posts, walls, etc. Recessed lights are a little more difficult to install, as you need to create a hole of some kind to recess them. They really do look great if you can work them in though.
One of the more popular ways to use these marker lights is probably as driveway lights. Solar driveway lights are really useful if you have a home with a dark driveway. Not so much for seeing the driveway when you are pulling into it, but more so once you have parked and are getting out of your car, gathering the kids, walking to the front door, etc. Just having that glow really helps your ability to see. It is also really comforting.
Another way that marker lights are being used more and more is in public safety. There are companies out there right now that have designed marker lights to be used as solar crosswalk lights. These lights are usually spaced a few feet apart on both sides of a public crosswalk. When someone is given a signal to cross the street, these lights blink, alerting motorists that a pedestrian is crossing.
Hopefully you now know a little bit more about solar marker lights. If you use your imagination, you can surely find new and creative uses for them.

You have invested a lot of cash into building your deck, and being the do it yourself type you also have a lot of time tied up in it. No doubt you and your family will be spending a lot of time there as you all enjoy the outdoors, and will use it quite often.
Have you considered adding lights to this masterpiece of outdoor enjoyment? That porch light mounted beside the back door will not do justice to your deck.
You should considered solar lights.
They are becoming quite popular for this type lighting, they are low maintenance, and they do not add to your electric bill so you don’t have to worry about leaving them on every night. And they come in many styles that can be mounted all around your deck to light up those dark spots or to call attention to the special aspects of your deck.
You can get them in post or rail mounted so that you can put them all around the deck, or flush mounted lights to mount around the edge of the deck or maybe to light up those dark stairs. They can also be used to outline a path way leading up to your deck. You can also get them in the familiar string or rope light types. You can also get a light that lights up the under side of a patio umbrella, always a dark spot in most nighttime situations.
The only drawback to solar powered lights is that they must be mounted where they will be able to absorb direct sunlight all day to be able to provide the light that you want of a night. And there are no wires to run so you don’t have to hire an electrician to get it all connected.
These solar deck lights (or solar yard lights as they are sometimes called) can be found in just about any hardware or DIY builders stores. I have found them myself in department stores and even in some drug stores. To see what all is available and to make comparisons just look them up online.

Solar power saves money on electricity bills, light bulbs, lamps and lighting fixtures. Using solar lights makes it easier to light your home naturally which benefits the environment and can provide benefits to your mental and emotional health.
Solar energy is renewable, as opposed to fossil fuels such as coal, gas and oil which use the earth's finite resources - expensive and environmentally damaging. By comparison solar energy is constantly replenished and will never run out. Sunlight can be used directly to heat and light homes and to generate electricity amongst a variety of domestic and industrial uses.
Solar light systems turn themselves on at dusk and remain lit until the sun rises. A small photocell element in the light detects when the light level is low and automatically turns itself on. if you use solar light fixtures in your garden, make sure any other lights are far enough away so as not to interfere with the solar process; if it is not dark enough the solar fixture will not turn on.
The highest quality of solar garden lights will operate from dusk until dawn every single day, even if there have just been several days of bad weather or no sunshine. According to Solar Lights Online, exactly how well your solar lights operate is affected by your geographical location, the weather conditions and the season. For obvious reasons, do not install solar lighting in areas which are constantly in the shade!
Different types of domestic solar lighting systems include bollard lights, patio. decking and driveway lights, post lights, spotlights, brick lights, step stone lights and jar lights. The choice is endless whatever your garden's layout and style. There are even some very unorthodox styles. Amazon offers solar wild grass lights that definitely not your run of the mill lighting option!
The internet is a great tool for researching solar lighting, reading reviews of solar products and finding online retailers, many of whom have year-round sales and special offers to try to win your business.

Do you own your own home? Does your home have a deck? Whether it is a front deck or a rear deck doesn't really matter.
If you have a home, and that home has a deck, you either have lighting for that deck, or you want lighting for it. If you do have lighting for your deck, you either have conventional lights or solar lights. If you already have solar deck lights, congratulations - you can now feel free to move onto the next article. If you want lights, or have conventional lights, please read on.
Only a few years ago, if people wanted to use solar lights for their deck, they would go out and find solar garden lights, path lights, etc. and try to find creative ways to make them blend in to their deck. Sometimes this turned out well. Other times not so well. The more people used solar powered lighting, the more they demanded more options. Over the past couple of years, the manufacturers have listened, and created tons of new styles and applications.
Some of the more popular styles of deck lighting include:
- Solar post lights that sit atop posts.
- Strip lights for use on steps or in corners
- Flush mount accent lights.
- Lantern style hanging lights.
This is but a few of the different options available today. As with all types of solar lighting, solar deck lights use the power of the sun for their energy source. This means that after the initial investment in the fixtures themselves, they cost absolutely nothing to run. That makes them ideal for those of us that are turning more and more towards green technology. As technology progresses, they are becoming less and less expensive to buy as well.
Another great benefit is, that in most cases, they are extremely easy to install. They are not quite as easy as solar garden lights, that you only need to stick in the ground, but they are pretty close. Solar post lights, for instance, require that you merely place them on top of your post and secure them a couple of screws. Probably the most difficult to install are the recessed fixtures, which require that you drill a hole in order to recessed them. Once that is done, they are usually either “glued” in place or secured with a couple of screws.
So whether you have no lights for your deck at all, or you have conventional deck lighting, I hope this article has convinced you to look at solar deck lighting as a viable lighting solution. With a little bit of research, and some smart shopping, you can have a well lit deck that is just as enjoyable at night as it is during the day.
