Tips on Decluttering The Kitchen

Declutter the KitchenI will help you declutter your kitchen in a weekend and keep it this way for years to come. Does this seem impossible? Believe me, it is not. Even if you never had a kitchen organized in your life that you I will show you how it can be done quite easily.

The first thing you need is the commitment that you want to clear your kitchen of all the clutter and it is quite important for you to take the time to do it. Then you should follow these steps to declutter your kitchen:

Take a weekend and set aside eight hours, four hours Saturday and four hours on Sunday, or a straight session in a single day. Put it on your calendar and do not allow anything else to be to be arranged on these days.

Prepare to declutter your kitchen collecting the following items: large garbage bags, three medium-sized cardboard or plastic containers. Mark each box with the following: Donate, Keep, Storage.

Start to declutter your kitchen by clearing the kitchen table and countertops first. Discard all the trash. Place the items in your kitchen that are necessary in the keep box, those that you can give away in the donation box and the rest goes into the storage container. Do not stop until the counters and tables are clean.

Then the pantry. Empty the contents of the pantry on your newly cleared kitchen tables. Take everything that has gone out of date and throw it away. Any items that you are never going to use should go in the donation box. Clean the pantry and put the items back keeping similar items together, such as grains together and canned foods together. This makes searching for them afterwards a breeze.

Next, attack the cupboard filled with Tupperware and plastic containers. We all have one! If any are not used, then thrown in the trash. If you have not used it in the last year then place it in the storage container.
Go through all the cabinets and kitchen drawers using the same principle for classifying the objects into the different boxes. The kitchen cabinet drawers are one of the biggest culprits for collecting junk. Be ruthless and throw away those items that you never use.

For the cabinet under the kitchen, you can buy organizers that will keep all your cleaners and cloths organised. When you go to clean anywhere, you can simply remove the organizer and have everything to hand no matter which room you are in.

Now that the kitchen is organized your attention must now switch to keeping your kitchen organized. Do not leave mail for weeks and accumulate paper clutter in a space on the kitchen table or counter. Make sure all items go back in place from where they came.

Let the members of your family know the new rules of the kitchen. Tell them that things must be put items aside, once they are done with them, and must be placed back where they belong. It is no longer correct to leave things lying around on the benches. It sounds a bit harsh, but will pay dividends in the long run.
