In the beginning upvc windows were just an economical means of
replacing the standard old windows in homes. There was no effort made
to preserve the look of the old window. They originally had very few
different models to choose from but they were still a very good
selling window. There claim of being a sturdy no maintenance window
was soon called into question.

Soon these home owners were starting to notice that these windows
were eroding and starting to discolor. Some windows which had become
almost impossible to open were creating a fire hazard by trapping the
occupants inside the building.
Owner of some older well maintained homes with sash windows would not
replace them for any reason. Some of these older homes still have the
original sash windows that were put in when the house was built.

These wooden windows still require scraping and painting every few
years and are not as efficient as a new upvc window.
Today you can have the best of both worlds, upvc windows have gone
through many improvements, they are now truly closer to being
maintenance free, just a quick wipe down with soap and water is all
that is required to keep a new look. And they are a lot sturdier than
they were at one time ,and if appear to be wearing out a closer
inspection will usually turn up worn hinges or latches to be the
actual problem, and these can be replaced without having to replace
the whole window.

The choices available in upvc windows today are truly awesome. They
come in just about any style from simple casement windows and sash
windows to large bay windows or even conservatories or sun rooms.
With a choice of just about any color, and a lot of new textures
including a raised grain wood finish that truly looks like wood.
