Inside Greg Soros’s Mission to Mentor Independent Podcasters

The podcasting boom has created more opportunities than ever for independent creators — and more competition. Getting a show off the ground is one thing; building an audience, landing sponsors, and sustaining a production is another. Greg Soros, a seasoned podcaster and founder of Podcraft Media Lab, designed his mentorship initiative around exactly that gap.

Soros has been candid about what motivated the effort. “The podcasting industry has an accessibility problem,” he said in a recent interview. Emerging creators, particularly those outside established media circles, often lack the resources and relationships that give shows a genuine chance at growth. His program is structured to close that distance.

Training That Covers Both Art and Commerce

Participants learn from a podcaster with a Berklee College of Music background and years of senior-level production experience. The training covers sound design, narrative architecture, and audience development. It also covers what Soros considers equally important: the mechanics of advertising deals, distribution negotiations, and revenue planning.

“We also teach the business fundamentals how to pitch to advertisers, negotiate distribution agreements, and build sustainable revenue models,” Greg Soros has said. Without that knowledge, creative skill alone rarely translates into a lasting career.

A Growing Impact

The program connects mentees with Greg Soros’s personal network of industry contacts, giving emerging voices access to potential sponsors and distribution partners from the outset. Several shows developed through the initiative have since secured major deals, and three reached six-figure download counts in their first year.

That track record has drawn notice from larger networks, with competitors now developing comparable programs. For Soros, the ultimate goal is an industry where talent and ideas, not connections and capital, determine which podcasters break through. Read this article for more information.
